Fiston Mudacumura was born in Rwanda in 1990. He studied modern languages and publishing at the former National University of Rwanda. In his spare time he was an active part of the local artistic scene, as a volunteer and part-time worker for various music and dance festivals and competitions in Rwanda.

Through his academic training, Fiston Mudacumura became aware of the weakness of the Rwandan publishing sector: a lack of children's books. His sense of responsibility towards his community grew and he decided to set up his own publishing house to contribute to improving literacy and reading culture in Rwanda.
